If you've been financially impacted by COVID-19 and are having trouble paying your premiums, please contact us for help. While we can't waive the premiums due, we will work with you on creating a payment schedule to help you catch up over time.

We Can Answer Your Questions

We understand you may have many questions concerning your group life and health-related coverages. We have answered the most common questions below. If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via phone or email.

Increases in coverage amounts for life insurance and select health coverages will be processed as normal. Any request for new coverage is subject to approval by New York Life. Please contact an account representative at 800.342.6501.

What if I have an application in process?

What if I need to file a claim?

In the event of a claim during this difficult time, please be assured it will be evaluated by the New York Life Insurance Company as normal based on the provisions of the group insurance policy.

Please review product-specific details on coverage for COVID-19 claims below. Please note: All of the New York Life Insurance Company products listed may not be available through our insurance program.

Life Insurance Claims

Group Term Life, 50 Plus-Term, Family Group Life, 45+ Term Life, Group 10-Year Level Term Life, and Group 20-Year Level Term Life policies through the New York Life Insurance Company will cover death from the coronavirus as long as you were honest on your application about preexisting conditions.

Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance and Professional or Business Overhead Expense Claims

You may be eligible for benefits through your New York Life Insurance Company policy if you are not able to work due to having or being exposed to COVID-19. In order to be eligible for benefits, you must submit medical documentation by a medical professional that your sickness (COVID-19 exposure) meets the policy's definition of a disability and prevents you from performing your occupation.

A quarantine situation must also be supported with medical documentation. Recommendations from elected officials or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, office closure, or absences from work due to childcare issues do not qualify.

Many factors will determine if a claim will be covered, including the type of coverage and the terms and conditions of the certificate and policy. The claim will be evaluated in accordance with the applicable waiting period and any other limitations, as for any other sickness or injury.

UPDATE as of 4-3-20: New York Life Insurance Company is providing an administrative exception for disability insureds whose insurance coverage would end under the terms of their contract if they were no longer working full time. This administrative exception will allow our disability insureds to maintain their coverage through June 30, 2020 even though the insured is not working full time, as long as premium payments are made.*

*Please note that Compliance Bulletin 2020-13 remains in effect. If insureds notify us that they are no longer working full time and unable to pay their premiums, coverage should not be canceled due to non-payment of premium.

COVID-19 is a disease and is not a covered condition within Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, also known as High-Limit Accident, through New York Life Insurance Company.
